Nuclear power is a false climate solution

In the run-up to the forthcoming COP31 World Climate Summit in Turkey, the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC)—one of the nine officially recognized non-party stakeholder groups of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)—published a clear statement against the misrepresentation of nuclear energy as a climate solution. Entitled “False solutions and feminist climate justice: why nuclear power cannot deliver a just transition,” the text presents a wealth of facts and argues against the “nuclear for climate” narrative from a feminist perspective. The WGC advocates a feminist approach to climate justice that prioritizes human rights, gender equality, care, participation, and ecological integrity. Members and staff of IPPNW-Germany contributed to the content and arguments underpinning the statement.
