Mangamanga Mtonga

IPPNW is pleased to announce that Mangamanga Mtonga, the eldest son of our dearly departed friend and colleague, is the recipient of the inaugural Dr. Robert Mtonga Memorial Scholarship.

The Scholarship was established last year to honor Dr. Mtonga’s memory and to carry forward his tireless work for peace, disarmament, and health by helping African students in the health professions who wish to follow in his remarkable footsteps. The award includes a $1,000 contribution toward Mangamanga’s educational expenses at Lusaka Apex Medical University in Zambia.

Mangamanga was delighted to hear of his selection as the first “Mtonga Scholar” and sent us the following message:

With sincere gratitude and honour allow me to take this opportunity and privilege to thank the entire IPPNW team and the able donors who have accorded me the inaugural scholarship of $1000 towards the advancement of my career to pursue a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.  I am pleased to state that this award has been received with deepest heartfelt joy and happiness in our family. This will help enhance my studies as it is a great motivation.I dedicate this award to the great gallant world citizen, Dr. Robert Eric Mtonga, MHSRIP. There are no better words –  thank you.”

Many thanks to all the donors whose generous contributions to the fund have enabled us to contribute to Mangamanga’s educational goals in his father’s name.

We continue to fundraise for the Mtonga Scholar Award.  Future growth of the Mtonga fund may allow for an increased number of awards or award amounts. Tax-deductible donations to this fund are deeply appreciated.
